If you are not wearing a helmet, we will ask for you to remove your number.

You are then a citizen riding on the road and not associated with this ride.

Please, wear your helmet. Also, for safety, please leave your iPod in your car.

Why wear the number?
Your event number gives you access to aid stations, food, drink, bathrooms & SAG support. Without your number, you will be turned away. Your number will be in your event packet at the event start - don't forget it!

Food at aid stations
Energy bars, gels, fruit, sandwiches, chips, cookies, water & complementary energy drinks. Nothing heavy – you want to stay light on your pedals. After ride sandwiches will be available at The Marketplace at Soaring Eagle Lodge. Bring cash for this.

Rain gear/clothing
Expect it to be in the 70's-80's, a little cooler up high. The possibility of a brief afternoon shower is always present so a light rain shell is wise to carry but not mandatory. Wear sunscreen! Recall too, you are in the mountains at a finishing elevation of 5,000 feet. It has snowed at Snowshoe every month of the year!

Mechanical support
We have limited mechanical support. Before you leave home, carefully check your bike or have it checked. In the past, we have seen riders with poor tires, no backup tubes, and wheels out of true (a potential problem on fast descents). There is not a bike shop in the neighborhood! Take note please.

What should I bring?
You'll need a bike for starters. Don't forget your helmet, gloves & a couple water bottles or a Camelback. Basic road tools to fix common issues are highly recommend - Allen wrench, pump & a spare tube at the minimum.

How long will it take me to finish?
Times for last year’s ride are still posted on this website! The S.A.G. team will make sure that everyone is at the finish line or picked up by 6:00 p.m. If, for whatever reason, you elect not to complete the ride, it would be very helpful if you would drive by the finish line at Soaring Eagle Lodge and let the people at the finish line know you are safe and chose not to complete the ride. Otherwise, we’ll be out looking for you!

Route Directions
We will provide you with a route sheet and will mark the route clearly with arrows & signs. When in doubt, follow the arrows on the road. (Be careful about following the cyclist in front of you -- they might be lost!)

Who is the sponsor?
This ride is due in large part to the West Virginia Cycling Foundation (a 501c3) that is in its development stages. We have partnered with Snowshoe Mountain. The rest stops are the work of the Mountain State Wheelers. (We have the best rest stops of any ride in America thanks to the Wheelers!)

Refunds
Refunds are available before August 1st and are subject to a $10 processing fee. After August 1st there are no refunds.

Weather
This is a rain or shine event, there are no rain-dates. Please come prepared for a typical mountain climate….meaning anything can happen.

When will times be posted?
Recall, this is a ride not a race. The times will be posted just as soon as they can be organized, which might be Monday or Tuesday. They will be on the website.
